Design Week Lagos (DWL) was established in 2019 as an annual citywide celebration bringing together a community of local and international designers, architects, and the creative industries with a vision to celebrate and promote Lagos as a leading global design capital. DWL is West Africa’s leading annual international design event held over ten days, promoting creativity, innovation across disciplines including architecture, industrial design, interior design, furniture design, graphics design, and culture.

DWL promotes creativity, innovation, and covers a range of design disciplines, including architecture, product design, interior design, furniture design, graphics design, and technology. DWL hosted over 40 events across the city, including; Design Kulture exhibition, MADE by Design show (Nigeria’s leading Design fair), Tourism Investors Forum, Sound for Design, Reflection for Happy Spaces, Vocational training week, The GUIDE conference organized by the Interior Designers Association of Nigeria, Restore and Rebuild hosted by the British Council, In Conversation with Demas Nwoko supported by Alliance Francaise, Emerging Designers round table by Decor Nigeria, Fix my Space reality TV show hosted by British council, the Vocational training week organized by VPD Academy and many more. The mission of the design DWL is to highlight the importance of all design disciplines and their impact on economic, social, cultural, and environmental development.

Design Week Lagos

Design Week Lagos (DWL) is the leading design week on the African continent, conceived to present and celebrate the best in contemporary African design across categories while bringing international field leaders and visitors to experience the most exciting work from the region. Founded by Titi Ogufere, the festival was established in 2019 as a citywide celebration held in Lagos, Nigeria, over seven days, promoting creativity innovation across disciplines, including architecture, industrial design, interior design, furniture design, graphics design, and technology.

DWL is a growing annual celebration and convening, with core programs including a central exhibition showcasing new work from across the continent, an awards program, and a series of talks and lectures. In addition to presenting new product design, DWL’s program highlights and explores new pathways in manufacturing methods, illuminating ingenuity and information sharing so that a growing community of contemporary designers can better tap into a rich history of craftsmanship and unique material knowledge across the continent.

The festival is committed to building a culture of innovation in Lagos and promoting the city as an international hub for design. DWL is a subsidiary of Essential Media Group and is supported by Lagos State.

Design Week Lagos Exhibition

Design Week Lagos Exhibition is an annual showcase for sourcing furniture and design objects in Africa curated by Charles O Job; the production is a meeting point for in the design and manufacturing industry and a bridge between manufacturers and design practitioners within the region and international buyers, design enthusiasts, and collaborators.

This year manufacturers will be showcasing their new collections, and designers will be showcasing new products to the market.

Design Week Lagos Talks

Design Week Lagos held a unique storytelling space to feature curated talks about design and architecture during the Design Week Lagos 2022. The talks which had 35 speakers served as a new meeting point inviting renowned designers and exhibiting immersive art installations.

In order to showcase important work, cultivate a diverse next generation of designers, encourage more equitable possibilities in the design field, and determine the future of design in Africa both regionally and globally, Design Week Lagos organizes a well curated series of programming.

The Made by Design Show

The Made by Design Show is the leading luxury home and hospitality event for Nigeria’s product sourcing and design education. The MBD show is Nigeria’s largest and most prestigious luxury home and hospitality trade event. Our mission is to encourage growth by empowering to lead, re-shape, and innovate within Nigeria’s rapidly growing luxury home and hospitality industry. Exhibiting at MBD means building relationships with the industry’s most prolific brands, design firms, and executives, providing a truly unique collaboration and networking experience.

Made by design is a curated show; therefore, participants are carefully selected by a qualifying process.

IDEA Awards

The Innovative Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), formally known as the Interior Design Excellence awards, is Nigeria’s largest and most successful independent design awards program. The program was established in 2012, celebrating the best of architecture, interiors, product design, furniture design, innovation, technology and new talent. Our aim has expanded to recognise the need to iconise the efforts and works of individuals and teams who have made a substantial contribution to the field of architecture, design, and technology.

We believe good design is a key driver of innovation, economic growth, export, and development. To celebrate Design in Africa, we introduce to you the IDEA Gala. This annual Gala exists not only to honour designers and their works but also to serve as a fundraising event to benefit the development of the design industry in Africa.
