The Design Week Lagos (DWL) Students’ Competition is a prestigious national contest that challenges architecture and interior design students to showcase their creativity and innovation. Each year, the competition presents real-life projects that encourage students to develop practical and visionary design solutions. Our aim is to broaden the minds of individuals as well as challenge designers’ understanding of the term “design” and the crucial role it plays in every aspect of our daily lives. We urge designers to consider and foresee the future needs of society that is influenced by the rapid growth in population, availability of materials, development of culture and environmental change. 

In its inaugural year, the competition focused on designing solutions for the Lagos State Waterways, prompting students to reimagine and enhance Nigeria’s aquatic environments. The second year shifted to cultural heritage, tasking participants with designing a contemporary museum. This year, the theme centers on designing an airport, inviting students to conceptualize a modern and functional aviation hub that meets both local and international standards.

Architecture in Nigeria has a robust history, while interior design is still gaining prominence. The DWL Students’ Competition aims to nurture and spotlight emerging talent in both fields. By engaging students from across Nigeria, especially architecture students, the competition seeks to inspire innovative thinking and creative problem-solving.

Participants will have the opportunity to present their projects to a panel of esteemed judges, comprising leading professionals from the architecture and design sectors. The competition not only provides a platform for students to gain recognition but also fosters a spirit of creativity and excellence in design. Winners of the competition will receive a cash prize of one million naira, generously supported by sponsors such as MTN and Amstel Malta.
