Josh Egesi is a Lagos based artist and designer from Abia State, Nigeria. His artistic training began with a 2 year foundation in Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State – the region most famously known for its rich artistic traditions and the Benin Kingdom. There Josh gained a Diploma in Art and Industrial Design and also interned as a Gallery and Curatorial Assistant at the mobile gallery – Artwyn (founded by Winifred Okpapi). After developing the how during his foundation, Josh wanted to understand his why and went on to study a degree in Fine Art with a major in Painting at the University of Benin. During the course Josh traveled to Abuja for a four month placement with sustainable artist Ifesinachi Comedy Nwanyanwu, where he learnt about recycling and the use of waste in art. For his final piece Josh incorporated sustainable methods into his artistic process and created a bottle top piece which gained him wide recognition nationally and internationally. Since graduating Josh has been determined to pursue his artistic practice despite socio-economic and environmental challenges. His work spans across a variety of mediums which include: painting, product design, graphic design and photography. He has received a small number of commercial and private commissions including work for Coca Cola Nigeria and International Brewery Nigeria.
